Fighting trolls proper operation of some website functions and performance. However the recent premiere of the new version of the Wykop portal is a beautiful demonstration of how not to deploy to production. Because I believe that learning from mistakes especially from other people's mistakes is a great way to learn so I decided to write this entry. But before I look at what went wrong it's worth mentioning what went right . First of all the deployment took place at night and did not take place on Friday at p.m. If the application you are working on needs a service window it is a good practice to do this window during the hours of least activity . A good solution not necessarily for employees is implementation on.
Sundays and holidays when traffic on many applications is drastically reduced. A good example of this approach are the applications of PKO BP and mBank banks. I periodically receive Phone Number List notifications about the unavailability of these applications where service windows are set to night hours on Sunday. While this may not sound like a dream Sunday for the IT department this solution is the best for customers. As for deploying on Friday at p.m.... if someone has no plans for the weekend why not. Among other positive changes the new UI is in my subjective opinion not the worst. It's true that I'm having a hard time finding my way around it but it can be considered a step in the right direction. Additionally Wykop can now run as a PWA application.
Another plus is the declaration of a complete rewrite of the website. If the technical debt in the application was too high the decision to completely rewrite the application was probably the only right one. Now I think we can move on to the problems... Tests In our case the tester is the customer It sounds like a bad joke but I'm afraid who could seriously think like that. I'm writing this entry less than a day after implementing the new version of Wykop and I feel that the place on the podium with errors is not yet certain. The most interesting flowers reported were Possibility to use a deleted account.
